Free Video Trimmer & Compressor

Cut MP4 and MOV videos, make them smaller or lower their resolution — right in your browser. No upload, no watermark, no sign-up.

How to trim or compress a video

  1. Choose an MP4, MOV or M4V video, or drop it onto the page. It opens right away because nothing is uploaded.
  2. Set where the clip should start and end: type the times, or play the video and press “Set to current position”.
  3. Choose Fast trim to cut without any quality loss, or Compress & resize to make the file smaller and lower its resolution.
  4. Press the button and wait for the progress bar. Then watch the result, compare the file sizes and download your MP4.

What you can do with Zebra Video

  • Trim without quality loss

Fast trim copies the original video and audio data, so it finishes in seconds and looks exactly like the source. It starts at the nearest keyframe at or before your start time.

  • Compress big videos

Re-encode to H.264 with the High, Balanced or Small preset to fit email, chat apps or upload limits. You see the size before and after, and can watch the result first.

  • Lower the resolution

Scale down to 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p. The aspect ratio is kept, nothing is upscaled, and portrait videos stay portrait.

  • Remove the sound

Untick “Keep audio” to save the video without its soundtrack, for example for a presentation or a background clip.

  • Private by design

Your video is processed by your own browser and never leaves your device. No account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.

  • Works with phone videos

Opens MP4 and MOV files from iPhone and Android phones, including portrait and rotated videos, HEVC (Fast trim) and AAC audio.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zebra Video free?

Yes. Zebra Video is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you trim or compress.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Trimming and compressing happen entirely in your browser, on your own device. Your video is never uploaded, so it also works for private clips.

Why does Fast trim start a little earlier than I asked?

Videos are stored as keyframes followed by frames that only describe changes. Without re-encoding, a clip can only begin on a keyframe, so Fast trim starts at the nearest keyframe at or before your start time. For phone videos that is usually within a second or two; screen recordings and some cameras have keyframes only every few seconds, so the clip can start several seconds earlier. The page shows the exact start before you trim. Compress & resize starts exactly where you asked.

Which browsers can compress videos?

Compressing uses the WebCodecs API to encode H.264 video. It works in recent versions of Chrome and Edge, and in Safari 16.4 or newer, on most computers and many phones. If your browser can’t encode video, Zebra Video says so and Fast trim still works.

How long does compressing take?

It depends on the length and resolution of the video and on your device. Many computers process a video in about its own running time or faster; phones are slower and use a lot of battery. Keep the tab open until the progress bar finishes. Fast trim only takes seconds.

What is the largest video I can use?

Files up to 500 MB. The result is built in your device’s memory, so very large videos can fail on phones or older computers. If that happens, trim a shorter part or use Fast trim, which needs the least memory.

Why was the sound removed?

Zebra Video copies AAC audio, which almost all phones and cameras use. Other audio formats, such as MP3, Opus or uncompressed PCM from some cameras, can’t be copied into the new file yet, so the video is saved without sound. The tool tells you before you start.

Does it work with iPhone videos?

Yes. iPhone MOV files open normally and portrait videos stay portrait. Fast trim keeps HEVC (H.265) video exactly as it is. Compressing HEVC needs a browser that can decode it, such as Safari or Chrome and Edge on many computers. HDR videos may look less vivid after compressing.

Is anything else kept from the original file?

The picture, the AAC sound and the orientation are kept. Other information, such as the recording location, camera details, chapters or subtitles, is not copied into the new file.
